My name is Liam Rogers and I am a filmmaker, photographer and artist living and working in London.

I was the kid with the video camera who cast friends as the victims in his slasher horror films. That kid.

Experimental Beginnings

In 2008, whilst studying for my BA in Film, I made the first film that I dared send to festivals. It was a queer experimental one shot short about a drag queen.

Ignorance was called the ‘most controversial film of the year’ and ‘an adventurous boundary-pushing short’ by the 2008 National Student Film Festival, it went on to be screened in Cannes and included in the ‘Sex on Film’ strand of the London Student Film Festival, despite not including anything remotely looking like sex. It also got booed and heckled at a screening when I was sat in the audience, that was an experience.

Quite honestly surprised by the reception it got - positive and negative - I continued down the path of experimentation with the 8mm film Re-Birthing Light. This also got screened internationally, less booing though.

From Film School to Fine Art

In 2009 I secured a place at the world renowned Goldsmiths’ College, University of London where I completed an MA in Fine Art. I’m not being humble, I genuinely know very little about the world of art that I spent the whole time feeling like an imposter in a world I knew nothing about. Nothing really changed in my approach however, I just continued making films.

The Eclipse, I am becalmed and The Long Lick Goodbye were just three projects that came out of my time at Goldsmiths.

Post-education

From 2011 - 2016 I produced numerous maybe ‘boundary-pushing’ and only sometimes ‘controversial’ films with projects such as Get Rogered, This Is Not A Test, and the multimedia installations Are you allergic to the 21st Century? and Gradient Blues.

Writing Narrative Fiction

In 2017, I decided to shift gears and focused my filmmaking attentions to writing narrative fiction shorts and then feature length screenplays.

Blending a love of narrative cinema and my experience of experimental filmmaking, I like to think they merge the things I love about both worlds.

I currently have two short films in pre-production and a handful of feature length screenplays either completed or in-the-works.

One project I am currently working on is a Queer slasher film.

20+ years later…still that kid.

Still from Ignorance

Still from I am becalmed that doubles as a photo of me.

Still from Ignorance.

Still from This Is Not A Test.

Still from Gradient Blues.
